Suji upma

This upma recipe is not only tasty but it's also packed with nutrition and vegetables. So those who hate eating vegges (like me :/) you can try this recipe.

Ingredients serves-4

  • 2 cups of suji or rava
  • 1/4th cups of chopped beans and carrot
  • 1/4th cup of green peas
  • 1 medium sized chopped onion
  • half tsp of mustard seeds
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • juice of half lemon
  • 4 cups of water
  • 2 tsp of salt
  • 3 tbsp of oil

Method

  1. Take a dry pan and add the suji or rava in it.Rost it till it changes it's color from pale white to golden brown and the aroma of roasted suji comes out.

  2. Take the vegetable(carrot, beans and peas) and blanch them .Blanching a a culinary term which basically means to drop the vegetables into hot boiling water for sometime.so that the veggies get partially cooked. Remember to run cold water over the blanched veggies to retain it's crunch and colour.
  3. In a pan add oil. After it gets hot add the mustard seeds and let it crackle.once it crackles tear the curry leaves to release the oil and aroma of the leaves and put it inside the oil.
  4. Once the leaves sputter in the hot oil add the chopped onions.Saute till the onions turn translucent.
  5. Once that done add the blanched vegetables and salt.Let it cook for a minute.
  6. Add the roasted suji into the pan.Stir properly till everything gets mixed.
  7. Add water and lemon juice.Give another stir.Cover the pan with a lid for 2 minutes. (stir the mixture in between.it reduces the risk of getting burned)
  8. Once the suji absorbs all the water and the upma get cooked, switch off the gas.
  9. Your upma is ready. Garnish it the way you like and serve it to your loved once.Let them Eat it up!:)
