Masala Chai (spiced Indian tea)

Tea or chai as we call in India is a compulsory beverage consumed by 9 out of 10 people everyday.A sip of freshly made tea can lighten and brighten your day. This recipe of Masala Chai or Spiced tea is a bit different take on the simple and humble tea recipe. This difference is basically due to the spices added in the tea.Now don't be frightened.Turmeric and chilly are not the only spices in Indian cuisine if that's what you are thinking right now.Now there is a phrase "it's not your cup of tea" which we usually say to someone while explaining how difficult a task is contrasting to an easy task of making a tea.But believe it or not there are a lot of people out there who are brilliant cooks but they fail to make a perfect cup of tea in the kitchen. This recipe is a sure shot winner.Try it to believe it.

Ingredients Serves-1 cup of Tea
  • 3/4th cup of water
  • 1/4th cup of milk
  • 1 tsp of tea leaves
  • 1 tsp of sugar (or as you like)
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 3 pods of green cardamom

Method
  1. Heat up a saucepan.Add in the water.
  2. Crush the ginger coarsely.I used a metal passel.Add it in the water.

  3. Similarly, lightly crush the cardamom and add it into the water.Add in the Sugar, too.

  4. Once the water comes to a boil add in the tea leaves(the one that i have used for this recipe is quite strong. Thus,i have used 1 tsp.If the one that you use is not that strong add a bit more).Wait till the tea leaves mixes with the water and stains the water into a dark shade of brown. In this step some people like their tea strong and some light. To make it stronger keep the leaves for a little longer(I like mine a bit strong).

  5. After this step add in the milk.Once the milk comes to a roaring boil switch off the gas.Keep it in the sauce pan as it is for a while so that the flavors blend well.

  6. Strain it with a strainer and serve it your loved once.Don't forget to make a cup for yourself, too.Serve it hot and for a change Drink it up!:)
